Children's Book: Grateful
“Practising gratitude to honour what’s ordinary about our lives, because that is what’s truly extraordinary.” — Brene Brown
I wrote a bedtime book for my kids to gently teach them the importance of practising gratitude and being grateful. And now you can share them with the little humans in your life.
It started as a 3 am project just over a year ago (not unlike most of my many projects) — I was watching one of my babies sleep, and it all poured out of me. In the pitch blackness, I teepee-typed on my Google Keeps, feeling somewhat guilty about being on my phone after curfew. I could picture the pages as I wrote but didn’t have enough time in the day to paint them all. I could, however, curate them digitally while the house slept. So, night after night, I put the pages together as I listened to those babies snore peacefully — something I will forever be grateful for.
The book is a little poem expressing our gratitude for what we value as a family. I’ve used lots of sentimental and meaningful images of things that directly connect with my soul. For instance, the picture of the lighthouse represents my marriage (we were married at a lighthouse), and it was the beginning of a beautiful journey that created this glorious family. The off-white house with pink trimmings represents the playhouse Santa dropped off in the middle of our living room one year, many moons ago, and the kids still play in it. The Jack Russell in front of the house is our very own River Song. Other things like shadow, moon, and balloons are some of my kids’ first words. There are lots and lots more!
I read this every night at bedtime as a sleep trigger, and so far, it has worked a treat.
Like everything I create, this, too, I created wholeheartedly, and I’m very proud of it! Now, I’m delighted to share it with you.
